Amy is a principal member of the Appellate, Insurance Coverage, Employment Law, and Civil Litigation practice groups. Amy has handled, or assisted in handling, hundreds of cases and appeals for individual, institutional, and commercial clients throughout the State and Federal courts in Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia.

Amy has argued numerous cases before the highest appellate courts in Maryland and the District of Columbia, as well as before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. Amy has been counsel on more than forty reported appellate opinions, many of which have established new law.

As a principal member of the insurance coverage group, Amy counsels and advises insurance carriers and insureds regarding the scope and meaning of insurance policy coverage provisions, and represents insurers and insureds in litigation involving their policies. Amy also counsels commercial clients on employment disputes and advises commercial clients on a variety of employment law issues.

As part of the employment practice group, Amy advises employers about State and Federal laws that impact personnel policies, assists companies in developing hiring and termination policies, drafting employment handbooks and record-keeping tactics to minimize employment litigation.

Amy was born and raised in Montgomery County, Maryland and graduated from Springbrook High School in 1988. She then attended the University of Richmond where she served as the President of the Panhellenic Council. Amy graduated, cum laude, in 1992, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art History. For law school, Amy chose the University of Maryland School of Law where she was an associate editor of The Business Lawyer, a joint publication of the University of Maryland School of Law and the American Bar Association's Section on Business Law. In her third year, she received the award for best work in Estate and Gift Taxation, and completed an internship with the Honorable Marvin J. Garbis of the United States District Court for the District of Maryland. Amy graduated, with honors, in 1995, at which time she began working for McCarthy Wilson.

Amy practices out of the firm’s Tysons Corner, Virginia office. Her practice is concentrated on appellate litigation, insurance coverage disputes, and employment litigation. Amy has argued or handled numerous appellate cases, which have resulted in reported opinions that are important in the areas of insurance coverage, premises liability, products liability, dental malpractice, attorney’s fee awards, civil procedure, general tort law, and estates and trust law.

Outside of her profession, Amy enjoys reading, running, and raising three boys with her husband, Chris, in Great Falls, Virginia. Amy has competed in five marathons and recently completed a seven-year term leading an art enrichment program at her son’s public school.
